STANTON O. HUMPHRIES, P.E., PRINCIPAL
This picture is Stan with his family at the Eagle County Airport's 2009 Romp on the Runway. The picture says it all. The Romp on the Runway was a community event that the airport sponsored after upgrading their runways but before opening them to air traffic. The event included bicycle and running races and a community dinner. Stan and his wife, Tammy, entered the bicycle races with their twins, Jenna and Clayton, in an open stage riding their tag-alongs. The tag-alongs couldn’t keep up with the serious bicycle racers. All the same, both kids wanted to win! Jenna said to Stan, “Dad they are leaving us behind, far behind”. Clayton said to Tammy, “Mom put it in gear, put it in a faster gear”. All good fun!
When not with the family, Stan is very proud to head up this team of engineers and professionals. After working 20 years in the mountains, he has learned the engineering business very well. With both a business and an engineering education and background, Stan understands how to run a successful, engaging, and client-oriented engineering services firm. On every project, AEC must provide superior value and services, from writing the proposal all the way to the project's conclusion. As the principal of AEC, it is Stan’s responsibility to ensure this high level of service is received by each client in every interaction.
TAYLOR CRITCHLOW, P.E., LEED AP, MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Taylor has been living and engineering in the Vail valley since early 2003. A native of Massachusetts, Taylor moved for the skiing and stayed for the lifestyle. He enjoys the opportunities and challenges present in the mountain construction industry, and is particularly interested in practicing sustainable design through an integrated process and whole building approach.
Taylor has a great deal of experience in high-end residential and mixed-use commercial design. He is careful and meticulous, and enjoys working through aesthetic detail. He has completed designs ranging from a performance arts center to a funeral home, small remodels to full scale building designs and assessments, and anything in between that the mountain communities have to offer.
Taylor’s real passion is sustainable design, and he strongly believes that efficiency is about a lot more than just placing solar panels on a roof (though if you are interested, he’d be happy to design you a system!). He believes in reducing demand through passive design strategies and integrated planning, and that sustainable design can be as economically attractive as it is socially responsible.
Outside of the office, Taylor enjoys getting outside on his bike/skiis/feet as often as possible. He loves life in the mountains, but wishes someone would bring in a bigger and better live music venue closer to home.
DEREK FELSCHOW, LEED AP, ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
Derek earned his Electrical Engineering degree from Boston University in 2006, where his greatest challenge was to develop a remote-controlled car that could parallel park – by itself. Shortly after school, he moved to the mountains and has been working as an electrical engineer for AEC. Recently, Derek became certified as a LEED Accredited Professional.
Among a variety of residential and commercial projects, Derek has brought power to the Bud Werner Memorial Library in Steamboat Springs, which is on the path for LEED certification, and he has designed an effective electrical system for the major renovation of and addition to the Landmark building in Vail, which required extensive coordination efforts with many disciplines. He has also designed the lighting on several projects including The North Face and One Track Mind sports stores in Vail, the vocational shop and classroom expansion of Hayden High School, and Mountain Comfort Furniture in Gypsum. His lighting design for the Eagle County recycling facility in Wolcott includes daylight harvesting controls.
Being from a small rural town in New Jersey, Derek loves the outdoors and can’t get enough of snowboarding in Colorado’s soft powder as compared to the icy hills back home. Mountain biking and rafting are also at the top of Derek’s list of fun, in addition to his love for travelling, music, and hiking.
ERIC RASZKOWSKI, P.E., LEED AP, MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Eric has over three years of experience managing projects and designing HVAC and plumbing systems. A graduate of Purdue University’s mechanical engineering program, Eric has continued to expand his knowledge base by obtaining his P.E. license, becoming a LEED AP, and joining ASHRAE. Eric grew up in Indianapolis, IN and moved back home after college to start work with a local engineering consulting firm. Two years later, his love for hiking, biking, and skiing brought him out to the mountains, where he’s been since March of 2008. Eric enjoys working on a variety of projects that allow him to employ his problem solving skills, knowledge of sustainability, and creativity to develop the most cost effective and efficient solutions for the client.
CHUCK LANGSTON, LEED AP, ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
Chuck graduated from Texas Christian University in 2004 with a BS in Engineering with Electrical Emphasis, and received his EIT certification in early 2005. Most of his engineering experience prior to Architectural Engineering Consultants is in the HVAC field. Chuck was a member of the ARI (now AHRI) Unitary Small Equipment Engineering Committee while working for Superior Coils, setting standards regarding equipment under 65 MBtu/h for ARI standard 210-240 and advising the US Department of Energy on the feasibility of regulation for efficient HVAC technology. After Superior Coils, Chuck worked for PennBarry, helping with such projects as the Burj Tower in Dubai. Chuck is from Fort Worth, TX and moved to the Vail Valley in the spring of 2008. Outside of work, he enjoys fly-fishing and skiing.
PAULA COYNE, LEED AP
Paula Coyne has been in the Vail Valley and working with Architectural Engineering Consultants, Inc. since September 2007. Prior to relocating to Colorado, she lived in Portland, OR where she spent the first 6 years of her post-college career doing technical support and consulting for a prominent construction and real estate accounting software company. Paula received her BS in Business Administration from DeVry University in Phoenix, AZ in June 1997.
As the Office Manager of AEC, she is responsible for everything from accounting and HR to marketing and general office administration. In addition to administration & managerial duties, Paula acts as a liaison between employees and management to make the office an enjoyable place to work. In Paula’s short time at AEC, she has played a major role in developing and implementing a variety of internal systems to better manage projects, finances, and resources.
Although this position is Paula’s first in the A/E industry, she is very excited about the industry’s shift towards sustainable practices. In order to more actively participate in AEC’s focus towards sustainable design, she took and passed the LEED Accredited Professional exam in December 2008.
When she’s not working, Paula enjoys (in no particular order) hiking, camping, practicing yoga, dancing, reading, snowboarding, and experimenting in the kitchen.
